Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO- What Do They Do?

1. What part of the body should we closely relate aperture?
The part of the body we should closely relate to aperture is the eye.

2. Finish this sentence - the smaller the Aperture _____________, the higher the Aperture ________________.
The smaller the Aperture size, the higher the Aperture number.

1. If you were assigned to shoot at Bulldogs and Hotdogs night, what shutter speeds do you think you would have to shoot at for the following events that night:

At the beginning while the sun was still up and the courtyard had reasonable good light

Slow Shutter Speed
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings- Slow Shutter Speed
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym- Fast Shutter Speed
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard- Fast Shutter Speed
e.) people streaming in from the front doors- Fast Shutter Speed
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop- Fast Shutter Speed

Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other.

a.) a booth in the middle of the yard near the Tree- Long Shutter Speed
b.) a food booth outside under one of the big red awnings- Long Shutter Speed
c.) the Stars performance inside the gym- Fast Shutter Speed
d.) students dancing near the center of the courtyard- Long Shutter Speed
e.) people streaming in from the front doors- Long Shutter Speed
f.) the basketball booth where students are shooting basketballs at a hoop- Fast Shutter Speed

2. List the three settings your camera has regarding setting shutter speed. Explain how each works.

The first shutter speed is fast shutter speed. You would use this for sports or if your subject is moving really fast. The shutter speed will usually be at 1/2000 second.
The second shutter speed is long shutter speed. You would use this for catching images at night and you would have to use a tripod for catching the images. The shutter speed will usually be above 1 second.
The third shutter speed is slow shutter speed. You would use this for making images blur like cars driving at night. The shutter speed will usually be 1/100 to 1 second.

1. What are the advantages of shooting at a higher ISO at a sporting event like basketball or a night football game?
When you shoot with a higher ISO at a sports event you're subject will "freeze" in motion and you'll get a sharper photo.

2. What suggestions did the author make about using a low ISO?

Using a low ISO will make your picture less grainy and it helps to use it when there's already enough light.

3. What suggestions did the author make about using a high ISO?
Using a high ISO will "freeze" your subject in motion so it doesn't blur and you can use it to capture more light in your photo.

ISO 3200
ISO 200
