Phobia Project
A. What is a Phobia?
A phobia is having a fear of a specific aspect of life or objects.
B. List and define 5 phobias Claustrophobia- Fear of confined spaces.
Laliophobia- Fear of speaking
Hadephobia- Fear of hell
Kymophobia- Fear of waves
Nyctophobia- Fear of the dark or of night
Claustrophobia- Fear of enclosed spaces
C. Brainstorm on your blog possible ideas for your Phobia photo.
Claustrophobia- The model is going to be my sister. I'm going to have her in a box yelling and having her hands on the box on either side of her. I'll have the top of the box a little bit open to let some light in. Another would be her in a closet sitting on the floor with her knees to her chest. My last idea would be her scratching a door to get out of a confined space. All the pictures will be dimly lit to try to make the spaces seem smaller than they actually are.
Nyctophobia- For this, there won't be a model. For my first idea, I'm going to have a dark room with a flashlight light on to try and light up the room. My second idea is to have a single light bulb on in a dark closet. My last idea is to have multiple really dim lights around a room on.
Laliophobia- The model is going to be my sister. The first idea is to have my sister put duct tape on her mouth with her eyes wide open. My second idea is to have my sister cover her mouth with her hands with her eyes closed tightly shut. My last idea is to have duct tape on her mouth while she holds up her finger to her mouth ( like someone saying shh) and looking straight at the camera.
D. What photographic techniques can you use to help highlight your images? Come up with one idea for each of your three photos you will take.
For laliophobia, I would use simplicity. I would use cropping for nyctophobia. I would use simplicity for claustrophobia.
Here are some examples from two years ago year. Can you figure out the phobia?:
